Well, since my last newsletter, there have been a lot of exciting developments. For one thing, we had a glorious Tour of Ireland, on which I played some concerts and got to visit the hometowns of both my father’s and my mother’s families. It was a deep and moving time, which I’ll say more about later.
 And speaking of Ireland, I spent a good bit of last spring and summer working on a theatrical production called A Terrible Beauty, which is about Ireland. It began with a phone call to a neighbor on a very dark January night, and blossomed into a lovely evening of theater, which we played to very enthusiastic, sold-out houses here in Maine, and which is now headed for a New York production this spring. A Terrible Beauty is based on my neighbor, Peter Behrens’ award-winning novel, The Law of Dreams, which is about the Irish Famine. You will, of course, be the first to know when our plans are firm.

I know there are a lot of friends, family and businesses all vying for space in your electronic inbox. I appreciate being among them, and I don’t want to abuse the privilege. As you know, emailing is new to us here at River Music, and we got off to a bumpy start sending a few worldwide emails announcing small, local events. It was annoying for a lot of you, and embarrassing for us. I’m hopeful that those problems are all behind us. In the future, we will email you only when we have news, a newsletter, a new release or an event scheduled within 50 miles of your home.
